What is the difference between chiropractic, osteopathy & physiotherapy?

As chiropractors, we focus primarily on the function of your spine and nervous system. Osteopaths work in a similarly holistic manner but use visceral and cranial techniques to improve blood and lymphatic supply. Physiotherapists focus on muscle and tissue damage recovery, so if you have sprained a joint or strained a muscle, they will help you with your rehabilitation. We are lucky at Discover Chiropractic to have a wonderful physiotherapist working in our premises with whom we often co-manage patients in order for them to get the best results.

Chiropractic has a diverse array of techniques and our chiropractors are trained in these. We use gentle, safe adjustments and we can avoid the “cracking noise.” We cater for your individual needs and have gentle methods for your comfort.

-
Is chiropractic care cost effective?

A large research, looking at 93 studies concluded that "Patients with spine-related musculoskeletal pain who consulted a chiropractor as their initial provider incurred substantially decreased downstream healthcare services and associated costs, resulting in lower overall healthcare costs compared with medical management".

Do I need to have musculoskeletal symptoms to see a chiropractor?

Here at Discover chiropractic, we have been able to help many people with various health challenges. We know that the nervous system controls and coordinates all functions of the body, so if it isn’t working well, we don’t work well. Our bodies will express this in many different ways; headaches, poor posture, aches and pains, limited motion, lack of energy, immune compromise, poor sleep, mood swings, sluggish digestion etc. By addressing dysfunction and areas of stress in the spine, better structure is achieved, therefore better nerve system function, which for you means better overall health.

-
How long do I have to come for?

This will vary with each person, depending on how long you have had the problem, your previous health history, any trauma or accidents and many other factors. After the chiropractor has performed an assessment, they will be able to tell you how frequently we recommend care. It may be starting with two visits a week initially and continue for a number of weeks, or less frequently depending on the above factors. Most of the people we care for continue with chiropractic care to maintain general wellness and improved quality of life.

-
Can I be pregnant and see a chiropractor?

Yes absolutely, chiropractic care during pregnancy is a beautiful way of helping your spinal structure and nervous system prepare for birth. Dr Lara is currently pregnant and has never appreciated chiropractic care more.

-
Can I bring my child to see a chiropractor

We recommend all children get checked post-birth as we believe a nervous system free of interference is the best start a baby could have. In our experience babies that get checked are more successful breast feeders, are more settled, have less digestive complaints and have a more robust immune system. All of our chiropractors at Discover Chiropractic are specifically trained to check and adjust newborns, babies, toddlers and children.
